The autonomous entity within the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) was previously known as the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies. The institute was established in 1996. Currently, it operates as a “think tank and school of graduate education offering Master of Science Programmes in Strategic Studies, International Relations, International Political Economy, and Asian Studies”. It exists to develop a community of scholars and policy analysts at the forefront of security studies and international affairs.
