It promotes sustainable land management and analyzes the economic impact of land degradation on a global scale. The initiative emphasizes the importance of sustainable land management and envisions a world where land is managed sustainably to protect and restore natural resources such as soils, water, and biodiversity. It works in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe. It is a joint endeavour between the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the European Commission. It is hosted by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
