A legally binding framework whose purpose is to combat desertification and mitigate the effects of drought in countries, particularly Africa. The Convention aims to protect and restore land to ensure a safer, more just, and sustainable future by addressing the impact of land degradation and drought. It is the only legally binding framework to tackle desertification and its effects. Currently, the Convention has 197 Parties, including 196 country Parties and the European Union.
