Acumen, a U.S.-based nonprofit impact investment fund, was founded by Jacqueline Novogratz in 2001. It invests in social enterprises serving low-income individuals, showing that philanthropic capital and business acumen can build thriving enterprises serving the underprivileged. Acumen has invested $115 million in 113 companies, focusing on clean energy, healthcare, and agriculture sectors. It measures success by the number of lives impacted and the social change created. Acumen Capital Partners was also established to manage funds for social enterprises, supporting scalable solutions that deliver social and financial returns.
