Special Issue on Human Security

The Cadmus Journal, a transnational, transdisciplinary publication, addresses major human concerns such as human security, education, peace, and global issues. This issue aligns with the HS4A global Human Security for All campaign, a collaboration between the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security and the World Academy of Art and Science, initiated in January 2023.

Inside the Issue

The issue begins with an introduction underscoring human security as a fundamental right for individual and societal well-being, emphasizing education. It provides an overview of the articles, each tackling human security issues through expert insights and innovative problem-solving. The objective is to advocate for human security for all by exploring inventive solutions to current challenges.

The Special Issue on Human Security: Part 2 contains various articles and authors. As the second instalment in the Human Security for All (HS4A) campaign series, it covers an array of human security topics, including education, health, and peace, penned by experts in these fields. These articles provide insights into the various dimensions of human security and its role in tackling global challenges. They also suggest strategies and frameworks for enhancing human security at different scales, from individual to global.

This special issue on human security is the second one associated with the Human Security for All (HS4A) campaign. This issue aims to enhance understanding of human security at the local, national, and global levels. It covers:

  1. The global push for human security
  2. Key findings on comprehensive human security
  3. The effects of human security disruption on health and the economy
  4. The role of human security in fostering global understanding and improved international relations
  5. The interplay between human security and existential threats: a governance framework for the planet, peace, people, and prosperity

Human Security for All (HS4A) Global Campaign

The HS4A campaign is a joint initiative by the UN Trust Fund for Human Security and the World Academy of Art and Science. It aims to increase global understanding and acceptance of human security. By promoting human security as a universal and practical framework, the campaign addresses complex crises and accelerating megatrends worldwide. It endorses the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 and encourages actions highlighting success stories and solutions to achieve human security for all.

The campaign emphasizes the importance of human security, prioritizing personal well-being across eight life experience-related pillars. It aims to protect against harmful disruptions and disasters in various aspects of life, such as homes, jobs, communities, and the environment. The HS4A campaign also organizes events and activities to raise awareness, commitment, and action towards advancing human security and accelerating the achievement of the SDGs for all.
