Wetlands International (1954; The Netherlands; 150 staff; www.wetlands.org )

Wetlands International is a “global not-for-profit organisation that’s dedicated to the conservation and restoration of wetlands”. They are deeply concerned about the “loss and deterioration of wetlands such as lakes, marshes and rivers” and envision a world “where wetlands are treasured and nurtured for their beauty, the life they support and the resources they provide”. It is dedicated to “maintaining and restoring wetlands— for their environmental values as well as for the services they provide to people”. Most of their work is financed “on a project basis by governments and private donors”.
