World Commission on Protected Areas

The World Commission on Protected Areas is a global environmental union, it’s one of 6 such commissions that operate under the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The WCPA “develops knowledge based policy, advice and guidance on the full suite of issues surrounding protected areas through the establishment of Specialist Groups and Task Forces”. Their aim is to “encourage international cooperation and provide scientific knowledge and tools to guide conservation action” by bringing together “global experts to find solutions for programme priorities, including global protected area standards and Best Practice Guidelines”.
