With a focus on innovative biofabrication. the start-up has raised >$50m from investors to produce new biologically lab-grown materials to reduce waste and improve quality. It’s first product is ZOA a leather substitute that employs a strain of genetically engineered yeast to produce a protein identical to bovine collagen, which can “be any density, hold to any mold, create any shape, take on any texture, combine with any other material and be any size.”
