The Federal Research Ministry (BMBF) decided to double its climate protection and sustainability research funding to four billion euros over the next five years through the Research for Sustainability (FONA) Strategy. It focuses on the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The new FONA Strategy’s motto is “Knowledge for a Better Future,” whose primary goal is to generate knowledge. However, it also aims to apply knowledge and become more efficient at translating research findings into practical applications. Hence, FONA works as an open framework for action.
