It focuses on the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) though it’s new strategy focuses on generating knowledge. It also aims to apply knowledge and become more efficient at translating research findings into practical applications. Hence, FONA works as an open framework for action. The strategy is funded by the Federal Research Ministry (BMBF), who decided to double its climate protection and sustainability research funding to four billion euros over the next five years.
