It aims to increase food security, improve wheat’s nutritional value and safety, and consider societal demands for sustainable and resilient agricultural production systems. This community collaborates by sharing resources, capabilities, data, knowledge, and ideas to enhance worldwide wheat productivity, quality, and sustainable production. Launched through a historic agreement between the Ministers of Agriculture of the G20 countries, it was originally named International Research Initiative for Wheat Improvement with the acronym IRIWI, changing name afterwards to Wheat Initiative.
