National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON; 2011, Boulder CO, 20 field offices; 89 staff; https://www.neonscience.org/)
A major ecology project “with 81 field sites becoming fully operational in 2018 […] providing data to understand how our aquatic and territorial ecosystems are changing that characterize and quantify how our nation’s ecosystems are changing.” With their comprehensive data they aim to “contribute to a better understanding and more accurate forecasting of how human activities impact ecology and how our society can more effectively address critical ecological questions and issues.” The network is sponsored by the National Science Foundation and operated by Battelle.
