Mission 2020 (2016; London; mission2020.global)
A shared global campaign to drive urgent action to limit the effects of climate change, particularly for the most vulnerable people and countries, so that we can reach a turning point on greenhouse gas emissions by 2020. It was convened by Costa Rican diplomat and former Exec. Sec. of UNFCCC Christiana Figueres. “The Climate Turning Point is within our reach, followed by attaining the UN’s SDGs in 2030 and net zero emissions in 2050.”
- The Climate Turning Point Report (2017, 29p.) – In the landmark Paris Climate Agreement, the world’s nations have committed to “holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels”. This goal is deemed necessary to avoid incalculable risks to humanity, and it is feasible – but realistically only if global emissions peak by the year 2020 at the latest.
