CFR is an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher dedicated to being a resource for its members, government officials, business executives, journalists, educators and students, civic and religious leaders, and other interested citizens in order to help them better understand the world and the foreign policy choices facing the United States and other countries.
Activities:
- The National Program hosts discussions across the United States and around the world. Recent topics: U.S. immigration policy, security in the Middle East and Europe, U.S.-Russia relations, and the North Korean nuclear threat
- The Corporate Program: 250+ companies worldwide belong. Links private-sector leaders with government, media, nongovernmental organizations, and academia to discuss issues at the intersection of business and foreign policy.
- David Rockefeller Studies Program: more than seventy full-time and adjunct fellows; in addition to producing books, articles, op-eds, blogs, podcasts, and interactives, the Studies Program administers eleven fellowship programs.
- Council of Councils: a consortium of twenty-eight leading think tanks that convenes biannually to discuss global governance. Issues an annual Report Card on International Cooperation, which evaluates global efforts on ten issues. Rated mitigating and adapting to climate change as the top global priority in 2019.
- 77 task force reports, including, recently, Innovation and National Security, The Work Ahead: Machines, Skills and U.S. Leadership in the Twenty-First Century, and Arctic Imperatives.
