Centre for Polar Observation & Modelling (CPOM)
(1998; University of Leeds, UK; 9 Staff; cpom.org.uk)
“Studies the land ice, sea ice, and ice sheets using satellite observations and numerical models of the polar regions”. CPOM was funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and works in close partnership with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) and European Space Agency (ESA). Works closely with the UK and international space agencies by providing scientific and technical leadership for satellite missions relevant to the polar region.

- HIGHLIGHT: Rapid discharge connects Antarctic subglacial lakes (2006, 4p) – This study found new, clear evidence of the movement of water beneath East Antarctic Sheets contradictory to previous expectations that subglacial lakes have long residence times and slow circulations.
