Animal Welfare Approved by AGW
(2014; Terrebonne, OR; 29 staff; agreenerworld.org)
Claims to be the only USDA-approved independent and nonprofit farm certification program promoting farm animal welfare, outdoor access and sustainability. It prides itself on being one of the top 5 fastest growing certifications in the United States. It promotes positive and sustainable change to the food system by offering practical guidance to independent family farmers on how to achieve sustainable livestock farming systems that guarantee animal welfare. It requires audited and high-welfare production, transport and slaughter practices be conducted thus ensuring that animals are kept in suitable conditions. The program, which was created by the Animal Welfare Institute, is administered by the nonprofit A Greener World (AGW), and offered free of charge to participating farmers. In this manner, the consumer and farm producer are reconnected thanks to the encouragement and rewarding of positive farm management changes.
