The World Future Council was formed to “speak on behalf of policy solutions that serve the interests of future generations”, focusing on identifying and spreading effective, future-just policy solutions. It also aims “to be an ethical voice for the needs of future life and to pass on a healthy planet and just societies to our children and grandchildren”.

The Council consists of 50 eminent global change-makers from governments, parliaments, civil society, academia, the arts and business. It also organizes a number of events including the Future of Cities Forum and a Regional Forum on Oceans and Coasts (May 2014).
