RSF defends persecuted journalists by exposing any mistreatment they went through and providing them with financial aid when needed. It also documents violations against press freedom and takes action when evidence is acquired by using letters of protest and publicity campaigns to ”challenge governments and wield influence both on the ground and in the ministries and precincts where media and Internet standards and legislation are drafted.”
