A federal agency established under the Canada High Arctic Research Station Act, formerly the Canadian Polar Commission. Through its activities, POLAR aims to strengthen Canada’s leadership in the field of polar science and technology. It also seeks to improve the understanding of the Canadian Arctic by bringing together the various perspectives contributing to this region’s development.

POLAR is Canada’s primary contact for the circumpolar scientific community through its activities. It is also a member of various international organizations focused on improving this region’s understanding. It additionally helps facilitate the development of scientific projects that are relevant to Canada’s interests.
