It aims to strengthen Canada’s leadership in the field of polar science and technology, also seeking to improve the understanding of the Canadian Arctic by bringing together the various perspectives contributing to this region’s development. It is Canada’s primary contact for the circumpolar scientific community through its activities and a member of various international organizations focused on improving this region’s understanding. It additionally helps facilitate the development of scientific projects that are relevant to Canada’s interests. The federal agency was established under the Canada High Arctic Research Station Act, formerly the Canadian Polar Commission.
