A 501(c)(3) environmental charity devoted to maintaining and safeguarding the natural nighttime environment and the history of dark skies via ecologically responsible outdoor lighting. It achieves its purpose nationally and worldwide through 65+ chapters in over 15 countries. A worldwide board of directors governs IDA, which comprises astronomers, scientists, light pollution activists, and lighting engineers and designers.
