Enel Group, a multinational energy company from Italy, in 2017 purchased EnerNOC and Demand Energy. They were merged and re-branded as Enel X in 2018. Engages in activities such as a Green Home Guide, building microgrids that include batteries, solar panels, and software to determine when to buy energy or sell excess power back.

US armed forces are expected to operate nearly one-third of the US microgrid capacity by 2020, enabling resiliency against disturbances and frugality. Focuses on wasted operating expenses, risk management, compliance and sustainability reporting, and overcoming fragmented data and communications.
