It specializes in capacity development in the field of internet governance and digital policy; striving “to increase the role of small and developing states and to improve global governance and international policy development.” To this end, it strengthens “the meaningful participation of all stakeholders in diplomatic practice and international relations.” It was established by the governments of Switzerland and Malta and in June 2006, it received Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).Â
