It aims to “play a key role in wildland fire and fire ecology research, education, management, and policy, to enhance our knowledge and management of fire as a fundamental ecological process.” The organization grants the AFE & SAFE Awards to honor career achievement in fire ecology and management by recognizing the pioneers and early advocates in our field. It also organizes a number of conferences like the 8th International Fire Ecology and Management Congress: Cultivating Pyrodiversity.
