Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research
It conducts polar and marine research, working in the cold and temperate regions of the world. Though it is one of the few scientific institutions in the world that is equally active in the Arctic and Antarctic. It is also works to decipher the complicated processes in the “system of earth” facing radical climate change.
It coordinates German polar research efforts, while also conducting research in the North Sea and adjacent coastal regions in Germany. And it has several ships, observatories, stations and airplanes to conduct expeditions and research.
