Advancing Green Chemistry

(2006; Charlottesville VA;

An NGO that is working for “a world in which – instead of toxic solvents and chemicals – industrial manufacturing used sugar, starch and sunlight as inputs. Imagine products that biodegrade into utterly benign substances. Imagine pure, clean water leaving factories and polluted sources brought back to life. What if industrial chemicals were bio-based and generated by farmers practicing sustainable agriculture? Imagine a workplace free of “hazmat” gear, factories without scrubbers, and a world where CO2 is used as a valuable industrial input rather than emitted as a green house gas.”

  • Cross-pollinating Environmental Health Sciences and Green Chemistry– a project to build collaborative connections between between Green Chemistry and Environmental Health Sciences. Green Chemistry is profoundly dependent on the rapidly evolving field of environmental health sciences for design signals. To support capacity in the field of Green Chemistry, AGC is undertaking a set of activities to help the two fields.
  • Administering TiPED – Tiered Protocol for Endocrine Disruption – TiPED is a dynamic tool to facilitate efficient and early identification of potentially endocrine disrupting chemicals. AGC lead the development of the Protocol and now works with researchers and companies to facilitate TiPED testing for new molecules, existing ingredients, and whole products.

  • GREEN CHEM 101 – “Green chemistry is a powerful innovation tool – for educators, business, policy makers, and investors. There has been a sea change in our understanding of chemicals and their effect on the environment and human health. This new awareness requires an entirely new way of approaching chemical design. That change in chemical design is green chemistry.”
